On Merging and Splitting of Self-similar Traffic in High-speed Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent studies of high-quality, highresolution traffic have demonstrated these traffics exhibit self-similarity, which has implications for design, control and analysis of high-speed networks. Merging and splitting are basic networking operations and should be studied before we analyze the performance of the whole high speed networks. In this paper, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for that merging of self-similar traffic streams also results in a self-similar stream, and show that splitting traffic streams of the self-similar stream are still self-similar streams by the independent splitting operation.

Simulating the Effect of Speed Humps on the U-Turn Traffic
Traffic simulation represents an effective tool for evaluating the suggested alternatives to enhance traffic conditions prior to their application in real sites. U-turn sections represent examples of the complicated sections that cannot be analyzed properly without applying microsimulation approach. Recently, in Iraq, speed humps were applied in prior to the merging locations and U-turn sectio...
متن کاملRouting Improvement for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) Using Nature Inspired Algorithms
are a subset of MANETs in which vehicles are considered as network clients. These networks have been created to communicate between vehicles and traffic control on the roads. have similar features to MANETs and their main special property is the high-speed node mobility which makes a quick change of the network. The rapid change of network topology is a major challenge in routing. One of the we...
متن کاملEvaluation of Methods for Computing Free-Flow Speed and Its Significance in the HCM 2010; Case Study: A Ramp-Weaving Segment
The core methodology of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) 2010 for freeway analyses is based on Free-Flow Speed (FFS). Moreover, weaving segments are major elements of freeway facilities that form where two one-way traffic streams intersect by merging and diverging maneuvers. Hence, this study used three different methods to compute FFS of a ramp-weaving segment, and then employed the proposed ...
متن کاملCompetition, Cooperation, and Optimization in Multi-Hop CSMA Networks with Correlated Traffic
The purpose of this paper is to present a new method for the study of the competition and cooperation relationships among nodes in a network using a CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access) protocol implemented with an exponential backoff process. Self-organized behavior is proposed. Standard topologies, such as tandem, traffic splitting and merging, are studied with variables: 1) backoff rate, 2) ...
متن کاملA network traffic prediction approach based on multifractal modeling
This work extends the notion of the widely mentioned and used fractional Brownian traffic model in the literature. Extensive experimental investigations indicate that the proposed traffic model, named extended fractional Brownian traffic, can capture not only the self-similar properties, but also the inherent multifractal characteristics of those traffic flows found in modern communication netw...
